The Significance of an Insignificant Us - Damian Ng
As some of you may know, I started a somewhat silly instagram account as a "playground" of sorts as I start a journey of losing weight and getting fit. I did this on a whim and with zero real expectation other than the fact that I could post pictures of food and other oddities that sprang from my brain. What came from this account so far has been nothing short of spectacular. I've found the most helpful and inspiring community of people I've ever seen before.
Damian Ng aka @damian_wanderer is one of these amazing people that stood out to me instantly. He is ready to spread his gift and collaborate and coach. I jumped at the chance to have him guest post on my blog and I'm honored that he said yes.
I would highly recommend scrolling to the bottom, after reading his post, following him on his social media and definitely shoot him a note of thanks at email@example.com if you loved his energy as much as I did!
The Significance of an Insignificant Us
This is the first ever guest blog post that I have written and I have happy to celebrate it with you. I would not have guessed or believed that I would have the opportunity to do something like this. After all, who am I? I am just an ordinary guy from a little dot in the world, Singapore.
Growing up, I have always been less than confident of myself for various of reasons, eg weight. Even until recently, I have doubted my ability to speak properly or write decently among others shortcomings I see myself of having.
I mean, I am just another individual in this massive world and massive may even be an understatement. I am not a famous star or even a renowned academic. I am just me, a guy who was previously working in a day job (currently an aspiring inspirational health and life coach) who has silly dreams of making a difference in the world even when I am imperfect in my own world.
This is exactly why many of us fail to live up to our potential. We belittle ourselves. We do not realize the enormous potential living inside of us. Why am I confident of the preceding sentence? Because it has been established time and time again, in various books and in many real life stories, that if we put our mind to something, we can actually make it happen.
However, many of us, myself included until only in recent weeks, talk ourselves out of being someone who can do better or spark a change or maybe even a revolution, think Martin King Luther, Gandhi or even Nelson Mandela.
We can really work towards that person we always wanted to be.
Let me share a secret with you and hopefully help jump start the engine. I believe it is going to blow your mind, as it did with mine.
I am not referring to the law of attraction. I would refer to it as the law of abundance. I was writing a post recently and this flowed out from it:
"The path to succeed in this world of abundance is through support from one human to another."
A friend of mine pointed out this particular sentence to me, as it spoke to her. It made me realize the simple significance of it.
There is enough in this world for each one of us. We do not have to fight for the pie. We have to find our own piece of pie. It is important to acknowledge that we can make a significant contribution to this beautiful world if only we have a little more faith in ourselves.
Many of us are unhappy and unsuccessful because we believe we have to fight and fend off competition, peers and even backstabbers. We believe that the world is just too dark and cut-throat. It is too hard to survive. Many of us are thinking about the countless battles we have to encounter everyday, fighting for the next sales, impressing in the next interview or even a promotion. It is just so depressing.
This is exactly the reason why we feel that we are not good enough. We are so insignificant in this world. Because we are comparing ourselves too much and not believing that there is actually enough for each and everyone of us. We are all worthy of success, worthy of having whatever that we want.
*Disclaimer: Hard work is required. Don't let anyone fool you in thinking there are any get-rich-quick methods out there.
That is why I believe the first step towards happiness and success in our lives is acknowledging our self-worth. We need to know we can make an impact in this world. We can bless and inspire someone. This simple knowledge will move us from insignificant to significant in an instance.
I used to question myself. Who am I? What do I have to give? What makes me think that what I say will have value? But I have now acknowledged my self-worth. I know who I am and what I can offer.
Who am I?
I am an unique individual who has the passion to inspire and improve happiness and lives of others.
What do I have to give?
So much. I do not judge and I strive to emphatically listen to you. Through that, I merely seek to be the lighthouse, guiding you to answers that are already contained within you, ensuring that you works towards happiness and eventually success.
What makes me think that what I say will have value?
I believe everyone have something valuable to offer. This is my belief. This is a world of abundance. There isn't one guru or a sacred teacher. We are all gurus and teachers. In fact, we all have life experiences that will surely be able to inspire someone if you are humble and passionate enough to coach, mentor or partner in their success. And I am confident that my involvement will be valuable because no matter what, having someone who believes in you will already put you in a driver seat towards success.
All we need to do is to believe that we are good enough. If we need to be perfect to inspire change then the whole world will suffer because there isn't anyone who is perfect. Our imperfections is the perfect reason to start sparking positive change.
True happiness starts from knowing your self-worth.
You are worth it. You are a significant creation in my world and this world is in abundance.
