*Sheepishly she begins to tap out the explanation to, "Where in the H.E. double hockey sticks have you been Deb?!"*
THE BUMBLING SILLY EXPLANATION
(Spoken in a Minnesotan accent) Long time no see! How's the wife? How's kids? Let's talk about you for as long as possible because I'm not even sure where I'll begin here!
Weeeeeeeell... it's like this. I was kidnapped by aliens. They temporarily removed my motivation and desire for contact with other humans. Yeah, that's it.
The truth of the matter is that for the last two years I've been through some pretty big life changes. Finding my purpose has always been an ongoing and dynamic adventure. At times I take a break from life to allow the “shedding” to take place more rapidly. Unfortunately, that often means letting down people around me.
If you’re going to allow your purpose to shine its beckoning light in your life you’ll have to be prepared to upset a few apple carts along the way. I personally am getting used accepting the consequences of going AWOL, the more I heed the next call of my purpose.
MY PURPOSE (S)
Finding my purpose is a sport to me. It’s exciting and excruciating and gorgeous. My life purpose “clues” come in waves. I can ride each wave, allowing the twists and turns and the flow to guide me naturally and excitedly to shore. Or I can resist it and risk getting beaten up and washed ashore in a more brutal and soggy manor.
Of course, I almost always choose the later. When God was handing out patience and trust in the flow of life, I jumped out of line *thinking* that I could handle this all on my own! I’m learning though.
I believe that we will spend our lifetime seeking our purposes. When I was younger I thought that sounded terrible. Why could I just find my ONE stinking purpose, be happy and live!? Now that I’ve embraced the fact that the journey of finding my purpose IS my purpose, and that there will ALWAYS be more to find, I have felt happier than I’ve ever felt in my life. What a gift!
Don’t get me wrong, allowing life to flow and just riding those waves still isn’t easy for me! But, keeping in mind that my purpose (my brand, my desires, my-everything) is ever- changing, always flowing and dynamic is actually helpful and more exciting! Now, if I can just remind myself of this as often as the waves come in.
Heed the call of your purpose! Just start by asking yourself, with no judgement or plan of action, “Where have I over promised myself? With whom am I spending time and not enjoying 90% of it? What parts of my life do I feel stuck in?” These simple questions asked over and over each day will kick start the waves of your purpose and calling. The call of your purpose is faint until you stop over promising yourself to others.
MY PROMISE TO YOU
I promise to never promise to keep up these blogs unless the wave of my purpose gently guides me to you. I promise to always listen to my purpose’s calling and if that involves writing or other shared expressions, I’m all over it. I promise to always see you in the light of your purpose – I know you’ll get there if you listen from within.
